Appledore Carnival - Sun 10 Aug
The Appledore Carnival is a major event for the village - the first Carnival was held on 28th October 1903. The Carnival assembles along Staddon Road, Appledore at 3:00pm, judging is at 3:30pm and the Carnival sets off at 4:00pm following an established route from the top of Appledore down to the Quay towards St Mary's Church, along Torridge Road turning right into Jubilee Road, and then back along Irsha Street (the 'wrong' way!) and finishing at the end of Irsha Street near St Mary's Church, Appledore.

St Mary's Appledore 175th Anniversary Celebrations

The churchwardens of St Mary's Parish Church, Appledore, invites you to celebrate the 175th anniversary of their lovely church, picturesquely situated by the river Torridge. On display you will find old church memorabilia, including many pictures, artefacts of our church life. Enjoy refreshments while you discover our church's rich history. Come and share your history of our church life too!

The Rt Revd Nick McKinnel, Bishop of Crediton, will lead a special service of celebration at 10.00am on Sunday 22nd September preceded by a procession along the quay with the Appledore Band.

THE APPLEDORE BAND - Sunday 25th August - 7.30pm start
The climax to the Appledore Band summer promenade concerts is the ‘Last Night of the Proms’ when the concert concludes with a selection of patriotic songs. The quay is packed with enthusiastic revellers singing their hearts out to Rule Britannia, Land of Hope and Glory etc. with a lot of energetic of flag waving interspersed with shouts of ‘Bravo’ and ‘Encore’. At the end of the evening everyone leaves for home with a lighter heart. On Appledore Quay (opposite Seagate) 7.30pm start.

"The Regatta commences with the main 'Regatta Day' on 18th August with competitive W.E.A.R.A. Rowing, N.D.Y.C. Sailing races and loads of other events and activities in both Appledore & Instow.
Throughout the week activities include: Art Show, Crabbing Competition, Fishing Competition, Sailing Boat Race, Greasy Pole Walking, Model Yacht Racing, Outboard Motor Race, Pilot Gig Sprint Race, Rowing, Sculling over the stern and the Boat Tug of War, Miller & Sweep Flour Battle with a variety of other activities and stall holders." Appledore Band continues its popular summer season of Monday evening concerts on the quay 8 – 9pm (opposite the Seagate). Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the band. The Training band (not to be confused with the main band) plays beforehand 7.15-7.45pm. In St Mary’s Church if wet.

Bideford New Year's Eve 

Riverside Party
Bideford has previously been voted one of the ten best places in the world to be on New Year’s Eve. Depending on the weather, between 10 and 20 thousand people descend on Bideford Quay for an evening of frivolity. Many people are in fancy dress and it is generally a happy occasion with relatively few troublesome incidents.

In The Square you'll see a large music stage with fun and games for the children and adults - and a range of children's entertainment, including bouncy castles, etc...and finally, fireworks at midnight o'er the river Taw.

     

 

THE APPLEDORE BAND Sunday 14th July - 2.00pm - 6.00pm on APPLEDORE QUAY has been selected to be one of six venues in Devon as part of the nationwide ‘Our big Gig’ musical celebration.

Our Big Gig is a community music celebration which takes place at over 300 venues across the UK from the 11th to the 14th July 2013. This annual event aims to bring communities together to celebrate their local musical talents and get more people involved in music making.

In Appledore the event will take place on Sunday 14th July from 2 till 6pm. Appledore Band will be playing in concert on the quay. Also there will be performances from Appledore Training Band, Bradworthy School Brass Group and Appledore Brass Ensemble. The public will be invited to try their hand at a brass instrument and Appledore Band encourages new blood in their training band.
